The waters off the coast of Los Cabos are home to a fantastic array ofmarine life and also have a fascinating geographic layout of underwater rock formations, which combine to offer a wide variety of dive sites rated among some of the best in the world.
Whether you are an aviddiver or a beginner, the Southern Sea of Cortez offers unparalleled opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the world's greatest marine animals, such as giant manta rays, whale sharks, hammerheads, teeming schools of porpoises, sea lions, sea turtles and much, much more! Many species that live in the Sea of Cortez are not found anywhere else in the world.
The reef at Cabo Pulmo is a place of unique beauty and extreme importance, located on the Eastern Cape only 40 miles north of San Jose. The reef is formed by many strands of hard coral and lies 18 meters under the water. It is the only hard coral reef in the Sea of Cortez and one of only three living reefs in North America. It is a jewel that attracts many tourists for its beauty, but more importantly it is a natural treasure that needs to be preserved by all.
If you are a certifieddiver, then the hardest decision you will make on your Cabos' vacation will be to choose where you want to dive. The Sea of Cortez is one of the most abundant seas in the world because of its variety of diving attractions. Approximately 100 feet from the Arch is the Abyss, which is only recommended for expert divers. Starting at Pelican Rock and going down an amazing 1200 feet you will find the Sandfalls, a 90 ft dive originally documented by the famous French biologist Jacques Cousteau. This canyon makes the San Lucas Bay one of the deepest in the world.
Gordo Banks, Santa Maria Bay, Cabo Pulmo and Chileno are other popular dive sites. The best season for diving is the summer, when the water temperatures are excellent and the visibility is perfect for underwater sightseeing. Los Cabos has a lot to offer to all divers and snorkeling enthusiasts! Enjoy a journey to one of these beautiful areas, visit some of these dive sites and discover, for yourself, this incredible world beneath the waves!
